To answer these or similar questions, and to present them live to those interested, Wohlhaupter exhibited its slide tools directly on the spindles of the boring machine manufacturers a few weeks ago in Hall 13 at the EMO trade show. The wondering trade show attendees were able to see for themselves the impressive boring tools for boring diameters larger than 1 meter at the renowned manufacturers’ stands directly on site.

Whether at Burkhardt & Weber, Bimatec Soraluce, TOS Varnsdorf, SHW or Union Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH Chemnitz, which demonstrated a tool with 2400 mm boring diameter at an impressive height on a PCR horizontal boring and milling machine – they all attracted the attention of the trade show visitors.

Numerous applications at joint customers verify that not only pure finish machining operations can be handled but, depending on the machine’s drive power, combined roughing and finish machining in particular is among the advantages of such boring tools. A special highlight of the tools from Wohlhaupter is that all of these Alu-Line slides can be equipped with a digital precision boring tool. This guarantees µ-accurate diameter adjustment based on direct, opto-electronic traverse measurement in combination with an integral digital display. It almost goes without saying that all standard components are available, including the tools up to 3255 mm in diameter. Everything is shipped straight from stock, as befits a system supplier. Never before have the demands on the performance capability of machining in companies been as high as they are today. Uninterrupted and safe use of the tools and, resulting from this, maximum productivity of the production facilities are the most important demands here. With the new digital tools for precision machining, Wohlhaupter is fulfilling precisely the requirements for highly accurate, easy to use and, above all, reliable tools. Especially the digital "Active Edge" technology from the collaboration partner Rigibore opens up entirely new possibilities for the design of multi-cutter tools, particularly in applications involving bores with a perfect fit aligned in a row, which previously were produced using separate individual tools. The "ActiveEdge" technology permits individual, simple and µ-accurate dimensional correction of every cutter in a boring bar. All cutters can be controlled and adjusted individually using a software program. It is therefore possible to measure within the machine and electronically perform any necessary cutter compensation immediately afterward.

Rigibore, like Wohlhaupter, focused on reliable read-off accuracy from the very beginning in the implementation of multi-cutter solutions. Both digital technologies ideally complement each other and are thus suitable for efficient production of individual parts, as well as pure mass production. With these digital tools, Wohlhaupter is the preferred partner for finish machining. From the design of standard or special tools best suitable for the application through to start-up in mass production, Wohlhaupter’s team is always at your side with advice and assistance.

The expansion of these three series will be brought to a successful conclusion with the presentation of two more tools from the 310 series in August of this year. The two "newcomers" cover the diameter range of 20 to 29.5 mm.

It goes without saying that we will draw on the existing insert holders from series 364. This is because, at Wohlhaupter, the system concept has utmost priority. Therefore all accessory parts within the system are compatible.

This means that the German market leader in the area of modular tools can also service the demand for simple, inexpensive and at the same time extremely accurate precision boring tools across the entire boring range of 20 mm to 205 mm.
